The news today is cartoonist Scott Hilburn has jumped to the next level in the cartooning world.

No, he's not hanging out with Charles Shultz on a cloud in the after life.
His strip The Argyle Sweater has been picked up by Universal Press Syndicate.

Bad news for Coco and Blinko -- children don't like clowns and even older kids are scared of them.

The news that will no doubt have clowns shedding tears was revealed in a poll of youngsters by researchers from the University of Sheffield who were examining how to improve the decor of hospital children's wards.

The study, reported in the Nursing Standard magazine, found all the 250 patients aged between four and 16 they quizzed disliked the use of clowns, with even the older ones finding them scary.

"As adults we make assumptions about what works for children," said Penny Curtis, a senior lecturer in research at the university.

"We found that clowns are universally disliked by children. Some found them quite frightening and unknowable."

I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds clowns disturbing.

Boy, 11, Uses Toy Lightsaber to Defend Mom From Attacker

An 11-year-old boy demonstrated The Force when he defended his mom by hitting an attacker with a toy lightsaber.
The man, in his 30s, fled after being confronted by the youngster outside a bakery in Swardeston, near Norwich, England.

I was really board the other day. So instead of taking a nap I threw together a handful of strips and some artwork and make a movie. Well, actually it's just a glorified slideshow. I just wanted to see if I could do it. I always heard "any idiot can do it", so I decided to see if I was an idiot as well.

One of the interesting items that happened this week was that Leona Helmsley left her dog $12 million, but left nothing to her two grandchildren. If I were one of the grandkids, the dog would be shortly meeting with an "accident".

I did come across this headline that I found funny -

I really don't think you can apologize for something like this.

Foutain of Youth

Just to get things clear, I don't believe that there is such a thing as the Fountain of Youth.

But if there was such a thing, I bet there would be a pile of skeletons around it. That is, baby skeletons. If you drank from it and your youth was restored, I bet you'd revert back to a baby. Alone and helpless in the middle of the alligator infested Florida Everglades with a survival IQ of O.

This is probably why it's location still remains a mystery.

Growing up I hated playgound equipment. Namely:

The metal slide; reaching the surface temperature of the sun, would leave blister on backsides.
Birds exploded when they landed on it.

The teeter-totter; where fat kids ruled and skinny kids becase airborne.

The merry-go-round thingy; with a faint odor of vomit from dizzy kids.

The swings; a place where you got kicked in the head when waking by.

The sandbox: The neighborhood cat litter box. Kids often discovered little "treasures".

I learned everything I know watching three things on TV: Cartoons, Westerns and Kung Fu flicks.

I learned about music, drawing and humor from the cartoons.
From the Westerns: never trust people with mustaches (especially women).
And from Kung Fu films, lip reading. The problem is I don't speak Chinese.

Musicals

What I like about musicals is that they're so true to life.

OK, so they're not.

But just think about it. If every time an there was an embarrasing/uncomfortable pause in life you just broke out into song. Either a) your problems would all be solved or b) everyone would forget what the problem was in the first place. I think "b" would more likely be the initial result followed by "a" since everyone would run away.

Today is another day in Pamplona, Spain.
Just another sunny day with commuters making their way to their hum-drum jobs.
Oh, by the way there are bulls chasing them.

Today is the start of another season of bull fighting, kicked of with the traditional running of the bulls.
Unlike bull fights, which only professionals can partake, anyone may participate. This is always a bad sign.
Many think it is good luck to touch a bull while it runs at top speed. Another bad idea.
The running ends with the bulls arriving at the ring with a few dozen participants impaled on their horns.
Then the remaining runners tease and goad the bulls for the amusement of the crowd. Another bad idea.
Then the bulls gore them.

This is how Spain controls it's idiot population growth.

Tar Pits

I'm back from vacation.

When I was young my class took a field trip to the La Brea Tar Pits. I was terrified of the tar pits. It seemed like a good way for the teacher to quietly dispose of some of us without a trace. Nada. Zilch. I think most of us had the same feeling because almost everyone seemed to be on thier best behavior. Happily there wasn't any exchanges of "Where's Johnny" and "There was never a Johnny, now get back in line."

I did notice tar on several of my classmates shoes. Maybe the teacher gave the a warning nudge/push.

Freeking Eyes

When I was young there were severval paintings hanging in our house. They were very well done oil painitng and very realistic.
The paintings' eyes always freaked me out, especially when I was guilty of some indescresion. No matter where I went in the room, there were the eyes. Now they don't follow me anymore.

I now live thousands of miles away from those eyes.
