Zombies

I first saw George Romero's Night of the Living Dead sometime in the mid 1970s. As a kid, I was a big horror film fan and loved the old Universal monsters. Hammer upped the blood and gore content in the late 50s and early 60s with their Dracula and Frankenstein films, but Romero blew the roof off with 1968's NOTLD. An instant classic that forever changed horror films.

I initially liked the 1979 sequel , Dawn of the Dead, a little better than the original, but I've since changed my mind. Nothing can top GR's first zombie flick.

The remake of Dawn of the Dead was excellent, and added a new wrinkle to the mythos: fast-moving, ferocious zombies. Anyone can outrun a lumbering corpse, but it's hard to escape a crazed creature that's sprinting after you.

Another fave is Shaun of the Dead, which expertly combines humor with great zombie thrills and chills. Highly recommended.

Show Buzz 1998

Here's one of the very first panels, created back in September 1998. Yikes! I certainly hope my drawing has improved.

SHOW BUZZ turns nine!

It's hard to believe, but SHOW BUZZ is almost a decade old. The panel started in the Antelope Valley Press in September 1998 and has run weekly ever since. That's almost 470 strips, which sounds impressive until you realize that number is less than a year-and-a-half of daily strips.

To celebrate my baby's birthday, I'll be posting some of the old panels during the next week or so. I just hope I can remember where I stashed that early stuff!

Welcome to SHOW BUZZ!

Greetings!

I hope you'll stop by every Monday to check out the latest SHOW BUZZ comic.

SHOW BUZZ has been running weekly in the Antelope Valley Press, a California daily newspaper, since 1998. We've been online here at Humorous maximus for a few months.

The feature is loosely entertainment-themed, but I sneak in as many monster and superhero gags as I can. I also like doing Amish cartoons, so keep an eye out for those. (If I've offended any Amish, I apologize. But let me ask you this: Why are you looking at a computer if you're Amish? Turn the thing off and go raise a barn, fer crying out loud!).
